Ardabil Rug

This is an Ardabil rug, sometimes spelled Ardebil rug, named after the Ardabil Province in northwestern Iran. Ardabil has a rich history of Persian rug weaving. Ardabil rugs feature motifs that are very similar to Caucasian rugs, but with more motifs and objects woven into the borders. Some modern weavers have begun to favour bold geometric patterns. One of the most famous carpets in existence today is the Ardabil Carpet on display in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, England.
